If you’ve ever played basketball in regular nike shoes you probably know that they don’t offer you the comfort and traction that you need during a game. This is why there are different styles of shoes that are specifically designed for this game. For the best results you need to choose the shoe that’s right for you and your playing style.
- Step 1
Have your basketball shoe size measured. Your feet change shape over the years and you may not wear the same size you’re used to anymore. This is important because while you do want a little room to move around comfortably, your foot should not be able to slide around inside the shoe.
- Step 2
Determine if you are a power player, all-around player or fast player. A power player needs basketball shoes that focus on cushioning and stability. An all-around player should choose shoes that have moderate ankle support and cushioning. A fast player needs lightweight shoes with moderate support, cushioning and flexibility.
- Step 3
Choose the style of shoe you need. High-tops have the most ankle support but also can restrict movement. They are best for power players and all-around players. Mid-tops have less movement restriction than high-tops and can be more comfortable. These are the most commonly used basketball shoes. Low-tops are the lightest but don’t have any ankle support. These are useful for players who depend on speed during a game.
- Step 4
Try the basketball shoes on before you buy them. Walk around the store aisle to give yourself an idea of how they feel. Do a couple of jumps and side-to-side moves to see if they offer the ankle and sole support you need for your position.
- Step 5
Shop around to see if a price is reasonable after you choose the shoes you want. You might be able to find a new pair on eBay or a store might be having a sale. After finding a deal you’re happy with, purchase the shoes and keep them in good condition by only using them for playing basketball.
